Santa, Trains, & Lights: Baltimore Neighborhoods Have Holiday Spirit
BALTIMORE (WJZ)—It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Baltimore.
Monique Griego made the rounds as neighborhoods kicked off their Christmas celebrations.
Families came out to enjoy what their neighborhoods had to offer.
In Southeast Baltimore, a crowd of families bundled up and braved the cold as the countdown to Christmas kicked off in Highlandtown.
"I think it's great for the kids," one man said.
Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and Santa were both on hand to officially light the neighborhood tree.
"I mean this is great. We never used to think years back of Canton as a place to raise a family, and now you have these kinds of activities. Feels right at home," said Jennifer Weglein, Canton resident.
Kids also got to watch as the Highlandtown train hit the tracks.
"Daddy look!" one kid exclaimed.
It's a display that blew many kids away.
"When I see all the trains go around it's just like, in my mind, it's like my mind is driving me awesome!" Dante Duck said.
In Fells Point, it was time to kick off the Olde Tyme Christmas celebration.
"I think it's fabulous. It's great having the small town family feel. It's great to be able to bring my son here," said Renee Beecher, Fells Point resident.
This year the celebration complete with crafts, food and drinks runs through Sunday, and the entire neighborhood is involved.
"It really brings everybody in the spirit. There's a chill in the air. It feels like the season," said Joy Giordano, Fells Point Main Street.
But when it comes to the excitement of Christmas, it seems kids still say it best.
"When all the Christmas trees get lit up, it just feels amazing," Duck said.
Saturday in Fells Point, they'll have a Christmas tree lighting and parade of boats. The celebration in Fells Point runs through Sunday.
