San Francisco Beats Morgan State 87-74
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Angelo Caloiaro scored 19 points with a game-high eight rebounds and San Francisco broke its three-game losing streak with an 87-74 victory over Morgan State on Tuesday night.
Perris Blackwell also scored 19 points for the Dons (10-6), who shot 53.8 percent from the field for their best performance against a Division I foe this season.
Ameer Ali recovered from a scoreless performance in his previous game to lead Morgan State (2-9) with a career-high 21 points, but he couldn't prevent the Bears from falling to 1-6 on the road this season.
Cody Doolin had 13 points and four boards for the balanced Dons, who saw six players score nine points or more. USF scored 36 points in the paint, where Blackwell feasted, to Morgan State's 16.
USF scored on 9 of 10 possessions during a 5-minute stretch late in the first half to open up a 40-29 lead with 3:07 left. Blackwell had six points and Williams five as the Dons outscored the Bears 22-10 during the run.
Morgan State closed to within 54-47 midway through the second half, but the Dons quickly reeled off 11 consecutive points, including a pair of buckets from Caloiaro, USF's leading scorer.
The Bears mounted a late charge behind three straight 3-pointers from DeWayne Jackson -- who had missed his first 11 shots, including eight treys. But the Dons made seven of nine free throws in the final 3:23 to help ice the win.
Larry Bastfield had 11 points and five assists for Morgan State, which shattered its season high with 29 3-point attempts but only made nine, or 31 percent.
