Saints Sign Free Agent G Ben Grubbs
METAIRIE, La. (AP) -- The New Orleans Saints have agreed to terms on a five-year contract with Pro Bowl guard Ben Grubbs, hoping he can fill the void left when All-Pro left guard Carl Nicks left in free agency for NFC South Division rival Tampa Bay.
Saints general manager Mickey Loomis, who announced the deal Thursday, says Grubbs' experience and past success with the
Baltimore Ravens will make him an "outstanding fit" on New Orleans' offense line.
The 6'3", 310-pound Grubbs, a former Auburn standout, was selected by Baltimore in the first round of the 2007 draft and
became a starter at right guard during his rookie season.
He switched to left guard the following season and has helped clear the way for Ravens star running back Ray Rice during the past several seasons.
