Ross Grimsley Talks Orioles Young Hurlers
Former Oriole and current OBT analyst Ross Grimsley joined the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn to talk Orioles pitching.
After Dylan Bundy threw seven scoreless innings against the Texas Rangers Tuesday night, Kevin Gausman followed him by allowing just two runs over seven innings last night. Grimsley gave his thoughts on why the two young pitchers have been so successful as of late. "These guys are learning how to pitch at the big league level. And they're also learning how to change and make adjustments and not pitch in patterns. The biggest thing that they're doing is they're learning to command their fastballs to both sides of the plate."
Kevin Gausman has had his struggles early on in road games. Grimsley talked about the adjustment of pitching in another team's ballpark. "Certain parks you're just not comfortable in…It's really tough sometimes to get the feel to do things. What we always liked to get pitcher's to do was try to emulate the first inning your last few pitches in the bullpen."
After a phenomenal first half of the season, Brad Brach hasn't been as sharp since the all-star break. Grimsley thinks he'll be back to his dominant ways soon. "At times he just gets a little out of whack. He tries to overthrow…I just think it's something that he's going through now, but I don't think it's an issue of arm weary or anything like that."
