Rocky Gap Slots Plan Clears Hurdle
CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) -- The Allegany County Commissioners and a casino developer have struck a deal removing a hurdle to slot-machine gambling at the Rocky Gap Lodge and Golf Resort.
The Cumberland Times-News reports that Evitts Resort LLC would pay the county at least $295,000 annually during the first 15 years of casino operations.
The resort is inside Rocky Gap State Park. The payments are in lieu of taxes the county would receive if it were on private property.
The commissioners are set to formally approve the deal Thursday.
Evitts also would pay the county a fee on hotel room sales after buying the lodge.
The county could request payment from the state if Evitts fail to meet its obligations.
Evitts is a unit of Lakes Entertainment Inc. of Minnetonka, Minn.
