Rob Long: 'Super' Bowl
With all of the hype that goes along with the Superbowl, sometimes the game doesn't live up to the hype. That wasn't the case on Sunday as the New York Giants and New England Patriots provided all of the excitement that this game should provide.
Eli Manning put himself into the class of the elite quarterbacks, as he predicted last summer, by winning that game. Not only did his team win the game, but he led them on a game-winning drive, with an incredible throw to Mario Manningham during that drive, to put himself, and his team, in a category of the greats of "today."
One man's comma becomes another man's question mark. Eli has the comma because his career is far from over. Tom Brady, on the other hand, now has the question mark. This was the time to completely seperate himself from the others. He could have, without any question, moved ahead of Peyton Manning, Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers.
Now, instead of Brady moving ahead, he's allowed Eli to elevate his own status to become part of the discussion. That's what winning championships do for quarterbacks.
