Rob Long: Ed Says He's Staying
There's a lot of talk about Baltimore Ravens' safety Ed Reed's comments surrounding Joe Flacco's play against the Houston Texans. Reed, who's been criticized in the local media about his play lately said that Flacco, "...just didn't look like he had a hold on the offense."
While both fans and members of the national and local media have said the same comments about Flacco, critics have questioned the timing of Reed's comments. Vinny Cerrato of the Vinny and Kenny Show pointed out that Ed Reed's comments could cause a distraction. Cerrato says that statement could take away from the amount of time studying the New England Patriots. That remains to be seen.
Lost in all of the hoopla about Reed's Joe Flacco comments was Ed Reed saying he would definitely return for the 2012 season. He also alluded to the fact that he couldn't see himself in another uniform either. He said he grew up a San Francisco 49ers fan and saw himself playing for them as a child, but now it's all about the Purple and Black.
That news might be met with mixed emotions. Some believe Ed Reed is still among the best safeties in the league and it's still difficult to upgrade while others believe it's time for the 33 year old to move aside to allow for a younger and cheaper alternative. I think Ed Reed still helps this team win and the fact that he announced he's coming back next year is good news for the franchise.
