Rob Carlin Recaps The Capitals' Thrilling Overtime Victory
Rob Carlin from Comcast Sports Net joined Vinny and Haynie to recap the and looks ahead to Game 4.
The Capitals won 3-2 over the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 3 of an Eastern Conference semifinal series thanks to defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk. Shattenkirk scored a power-play goal on a blast from the center point at 3:13 of overtime to render Pittsburgh's comeback null and keep his club from falling into an 0-3 hole in the series.
Carlin said, "I give the Caps a lot of credit and I could not have been any happier that it was Shattenkirk that scored because he's had a rough playoff, but the amount of anger on Twitter aimed at him..."bench him" and "why did we get him"...I was very happy that he scored that goal."
Crosby, who was named a finalist for the Hart Trophy as NHL MVP, got hurt at 5:24 of the first period when the game was scoreless. He remained down on the ice for several minutes before slowly skating off and going to the locker room. He did not return.
Carlin said, "I just think it's a dangerous sport and sometimes you're going to get hit in a spot that's going to cause an injury. I hate that the best player in the world got hurt. You know, yes does it make it easier if he doesn't play? Yes, but I would rather everyone be healthy and these two teams go at it like that, and I just think it was an unfortunate play."
Crosby has a history of concussions, including one that caused him to miss the first six games of the regular season.
