Md. State Police Looking For Suspect In Road Rage Incident
BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- The victim of a vicious road rage incident remains hospitalized, after an encounter on the I-95 stretch through Baltimore into Harford County Thursday ended with a man run over, with life-threatening injuries. The suspect remains at large.
WJZ Investigator Mike Hellgren has the latest on the investigation. This was particularly brazen happening on a busy stretch of interstate in the middle of the day.
A road rage incident on I-95 in Harford County was so severe, the victim had to be airlifted to Shock Trauma. There is damage to the bumper. The encounter started near the Baltimore beltway and ended 16 miles north near Belcamp.
"I saw the helicopter landing," says Keith Hoyle.
He had to detour from the traffic jam that shut down the interstate.
"That's sad. I mean what's the world coming to" says Hoyle.
Police say both men involved were driving aggressively as they headed north on 95.
Eventually, the blue Toyota driver pulled over. That's when the other driver rear ended him.
The victim got out on the driver's side and went around back to look at the damage. That's when police say the suspect engaged him in a fistfight. But it didn't end there.
"The suspect for whatever reason jumped back into his car and allegedly ran the victim over and fled the scene," says Elena Russo with Maryland State Police.
"What kind of person do you think would actually run someone over on the interstate?" asks Mike Hellgren.
"That's the thing. I think that's bigger than a road rage incident. That's someone who's got anger issues," says Mike Walker from Belcamp.
The road rage happened on one of Maryland's most crowded highways at 2:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon, investigators are looking for witnesses in addition to looking for the suspect.
"Police are asking any witnesses who may have observed the aggressive driving or even observed the incident that was occurring on the side of the road to please call, because at this point we really all we have to go by is what the victim is telling police," says Russo.
Police say the suspect was driving a gold, late model Nissan Maxima. It has front end damage.
