Rights Groups Have Petition Against Metro Searches
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Two rights groups have launched an online petition against Metro's announced plan to conduct random bag searches on the subway system.
Patrick Elder, a co-founder of DC Bill of Rights Coalition, believes the plan is against the 4th Amendment, which bars unreasonable searches.
The D.C. group is joined by Montgomery County Civil Rights Coalition in starting the petition.
Metro announced the plan last week. A spokeswoman said Monday that no searches have been conducted so far, although they could happen at any time.
