Resident Critically Hurt In Midland House Fire
MIDLAND, Md. (AP) -- Fire officials say a volunteer firefighter was critically injured in a blaze in his Allegany County home.
The Office of the State Fire Marshal says the fire was reported about 1:20 a.m. Monday in Midland. Officials say firefighters found 24-year-old Denzel Halbitter on the kitchen floor. He was taken to Western Maryland Regional Medical Center in Cumberland in critical condition with smoke inhalation.
About 60 firefighters from Maryland and West Virginia fire companies battled the blaze before bringing it under control in about 20 minutes.
Investigators say the fire started in a central room on the first floor, but the cause is under investigation.
Damage is estimated at $50,000.
