Report Finds Little Progress On Animal Abuse
BALTIMORE (AP) -- A yet-to-be-released report finds that Baltimore has made little progress in curbing animal abuse since a special commission was formed in 2009.
WBAL-TV obtained the report ahead of its release. It was written by the city's advisory commission on animal abuse, which was set up by Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake in 2010. WBAL-TV reports that several members of the commission have now resigned.
The report says many city agencies haven't cooperated with efforts to curb animal abuse, including the police department. It says many law enforcement officials "continue to treat animal abuse as a minor property crime."
The commission was formed in response to the burning of a pit bull in 2009, a case that attracted widespread attention. The dog ultimately had to be euthanized.
