Report: Ex-Olympic Speedskater Accused Of Abuse
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Washington Post reports that a former Olympic speedskating gold medalist has been accused of striking young skaters with hockey sticks and hammers.
The newspaper said Saturday that coach Kim Dong-Sung of South Korea continued to teach and keep his accreditation.
He denied the allegations during an interview last month.
Kim won 23 world championships and two Olympic medals for South Korea. He came to the U.S. after retiring in 2002 and began coaching in Virginia and Maryland.
The Post says "numerous and credible" allegations were made to U.S. Speedskating. Kim allegedly used assorted instruments to hit his skaters on the buttocks, stomach and hands. Six skaters told the Post they were victims or witnesses of abuse.
