Reid Wiseman Reflects On His Time In Space, Says He'd Like To Go Back

BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) --- Home, sweet, home.

Maryland's Reid Wiseman is home in Baltimore after six months in space.

WJZ has been following every step of the Baltimore County native's mission.

Mary Bubala sat down with Wiseman and his parents -- Bill and Judy -- to talk about his incredible journey.

---

Mary: How great is it to have Reid sitting on your couch?

Bill:  I was biting my nails for six months as your know and to have Reid back here in the house is terrific. We went to Tio Pepe's-- that's his favorite place to go -- and we did that last night so it's wonderful to have Reid here and he's going to see all his friends while he's here.

Mary: Reid, how great is it to be back in your home base, back where it all started?

Reid: It's great! This is where I grew up as a kid and spent the first 18 years of my life here and my dad took me on a little drive tour after we left the county and it was neat to see all the places that I used to hang out as a kid-- see the old shopping center, Dulaney High School, we drove by there, and it's really a good time.

Mary: Well, welcome home.  What is the one thing that has really changed about yourself after being above Earth for that long?

Reid: I've said it a couple of times, but you definitely get a different perspective of the Earth when you are up there looking down on it. And I always just felt like a human walking around on our planet but now I feel like the Earth is the most alive part of all of us and we're just a guest here.  And I got to see the Earth changing over six months and watching the seasons change -- watching hurricanes go across the Atlantic heading toward U.S. Just the power of mother nature, watching that from 250 miles up -- it changes your perspective of the Earth for sure.

Mary: I called you the social media maverick in space because of what you did. You brought these images to our fingertips -- incredible images. Have you had a chance to go and look at all the pictures that you took?

Reid: I really haven't and it's terrible in space because you see them on a little lap top screen and now that I am back I am seeing them on a bigger TV or on a projector and I really understand they are really beautiful. It's really amazing to see the Earth when you can see it in that kind of clarity and detail.

Mary: Reid tells me he's going to back into space if he gets a chance.

Judy: Oh I think he will. Oh I truly do.

Mary: You think it's Ok?

Reid:  I have to give my parents a little time though.

Mary: We don't need it though. We enjoyed every minute of your time on ISS.  Enjoy your family, I know you're going back to Texas, where you live now.

Reid: Yes, in Houston.

Wiseman is spending his time back talking to school children about his time in space. He's still employed by the Navy.

Only 600 people have been in space before, three from Maryland.

Mary Bubala talks more about what Wiseman is up to now that he's back on Earth. Watch the full interview.
