Reed May Not Play Against Ravens
By Matthew Asher
When the Baltimore Ravens take on the Houston Texans this weekend, it's the name of a former player on the injured list that may get the most attention: Ed Reed. Reed spent his first ten years as a Raven before signing with the Houston Texans this offseason. Reed underwent arthroscopic surgery in his hip during the offseason and has yet to play for the Texans. He is currently listed as questionable for Sunday's game and was limited in practice. If Reed can play, it has been announced that he will be the starter.
For the Ravens roster, the big name on the offensive side of the ball is starting running back Ray Rice (hip). He did not participate in any of the practices this week. Although he is listed as doubtful, coach John Harbaugh is still hoping that Rice will be able to play against Houston. "We'll keep our fingers crossed, although we're prepared for it go go either way," Harbaugh said during the week, adding that it will be a game-time decision if Rice plays or if he sits. If Rice sits, Bernard Pierce will have to step up in a big way.
Although he was injured against Denver in Week 1, because Jacoby Jones (sprained MCL) has not been placed on the injured reserve so he will continue to be listed on the injury report. It's believed Jones will be out four to six weeks so for now Marlon Brown will be filling in for Jones.
Defensive lineman Chris Canty (thigh) is the last Ravens starter listed for this week. Like Rice, Canty did not practice at all this week and is listed as doubtful. Marcus Spears would be the likely candidate to fill in for Canty.
Third-string wide receiver Deonte Thompson (foot) and third-string center Ryan Jensen (foot) are the other two offensive players on the list. Thompson was limited in practice on Wednesday but did not participate in practice either Thursday or Friday. He is listed as doubtful. Jensen was unable to practice at all during the week. He is listed as out.
All the other defensive players listed in the injury report are second-stringers. Backup weak-side linebacker Arthur Brown (chest) and defensive tackle Brandon Williams (toe) are both listed as doubtful for the game. Brown did not participate in any of the practices this week while Williams was limited in practice each day. Cornerback Chykie Brown (knee) is listed as questionable. He did not practice on Wednesday and was limited both Thursday and Friday.
Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 pm EST.
For reference:
- Probable: a 75% chance the injured player will be medically cleared for the game
- Questionable: a 50% chance the injured player will be medically cleared for the game
- Doubtful: a 25% chance the injured player will be medically cleared for the game
- Out: there is no chance the injured player will be medically cleared for the game
