Redskin Brandon Meriweather Arrested On DUI
ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) -- Arlington County police say Washington Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after refusing a breath test.
Police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck says Meriweather was pulled over shortly before 3 a.m. Thursday on westbound Interstate 66 outside of Washington and failed a sobriety test after refusing a breath test. The police spokesman says Meriweather was arrested and taken to a county detention center before he was released later Thursday.
Meriweather signed a two-year, $6 million deal last month with the Redskins. Meriweather, 28, was a first-round draft pick by New England in 2007 and was a two-time Pro Bowl player before he was cut in training camp last year. He then signed with Chicago but lost his starting job early in the season.
