Ray Rice Chooses The Living Classrooms Foundation As His Charity In National Competition
BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- It's a big honor for a local organization. Baltimore Ravens star running back Ray Rice got to choose a charity he wants to support as part of a national competition sponsored by Popchips.
Mary Bubala reports Rice chose the Living Classrooms Foundation.
City Springs football field in East Baltimore is brand new. Local students got to meet Rice and learn some pointers from him on the field.
Rice teamed up with Popchips in their Game Changer contest. He chose the Living Classrooms Foundation as the winner.
The organization helped renovate this field as part of its health and wellness athletic programming for inner city young people.
"It's a real honor for the Living Classrooms Foundation that Ray Rice selected our organization to come and work with about 100 inner city children on this new City Springs field," James Piper Bond, president of the Living Classrooms Foundation, said. "And we have the Patterson Park youth sports center field coming in November. So these are two new sites for Baltimore City children to have sports and athletics and physical education."
Students from six schools, including the Crossroads School, ran drills with Ray Rice. They listened to his story and how he got his start playing the game in school.
"I think he motivates the kids out here who play sports and that they should be the best they can be," Demetrius Ellis, a Baltimore student said.
Rice selected the Living Classrooms Foundation out of the top five organizations that got the most votes in the Popchips contest.
Sports stars across the nation are all giving back this month as part of the campaign.
