Ravens Veterans Join Rookies For Day 2 Of Training Camp
OWINGS MILLS, Md. (WJZ)—It's report day for the Ravens veterans, but did they all show up for training camp?
Sports director Mark Viviano has more on the players who arrived and what they are saying.
The real work begins Thursday with the first full squad workout. Wednesday was check in day. Ravens veterans arrive for the start of training camp, bringing with them plenty of hope for what's expected to be another playoff season ahead.
"Good morning, good morning," Ray Rice said to reporters as he arrived to training camp.
It's a good morning and good month for Rice, arriving to camp after signing a $40 million contract.
He talked about returning for his fifth season with the Ravens.
"I want to retire a Raven. That's what it all boils down to. You get your second contract, you think about long term. It'll be nine years of my life that I've been in Baltimore. Needless to say, Baltimore has become home to me. My license says Baltimore. I'm no longer a New Yorker. I just visit there now," Rice said.
Safety Ed Reed showed up after an off season where he hinted at retirement. This will be his 11th NFL season.
The rookies are ready for their first.
Rookie running back Bernard Pierce wants to make a good impression as he fights for a job alongside Rice and others.
"I look forward to at practice being able to go on the field and do my best every day. I'm definitely looking to turn heads every day on the practice field," Pierce said. "Also, those other two are real good guys and we already have a friendship, so right now it's just competition."
Hard work and high hopes. That sums it up for both the rookies and veterans.
The Ravens' first preseason game is August 9 in Atlanta.
