Torrey Smith Brings Lombardi Trophy To Annapolis
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ)--Maryland politicians got the chance to meet some of their heroes Thursday.
Jessica Kartalija explains the Baltimore Ravens made a visit to Annapolis, bringing with them the Lombardi Trophy.
The Super Bowl belongs to Baltimore!
The World Champion Baltimore Ravens certainly made Maryland proud, winning the Super Bowl in New Orleans.
Now, from the gridiron to the State House, the Lombardi Trophy makes a special visit to the Maryland General Assembly.
"It's been a great magical run for us, great to be here today, thrilled you have us here to show our trophy," said Dick Cass, Baltimore Ravens president.
It's the second time Smith has visited the State House this month, after working as a legislative intern in Congressman Elijah Cumming's office during the offseason.
"It defines us as a team, as a city. It defines our state as tough-minded, blue-collar, hard-working people," Smith said.
Smith took time to sign autographs and take pictures.
"We are thrilled to be here and happy Torrey could come show them the trophy and have a few pictures taken," Cass said.
"Torrey Smith is just such a fine example of a great person--great academics, great football player, great for the community, and I appreciate him taking his time to come down here," said Kathy Klausmeier, D-Baltimore County.
Smith says he still gets goosebumps seeing the trophy and tells lawmakers to expect to see more in the future.
"Even though it's died down, when I get my ring, I will come back and visit you guys again!" Smith said.
Smith was very comfortable with the lawmakers, joking around and assuring them that they will see a lot more from the Ravens in the coming seasons.
Governor Martin O'Malley had the State House lit up in purple during the Ravens' playoff run.
