Ravens Sign Free Agent DE Chris Canty
BALTIMORE (AP/WJZ) -- The Baltimore Ravens have signed free agent defensive end Chris Canty, who spent the previous four seasons with the New York Giants.
Canty announced the signing Tuesday on Instagram with a photo of the signed contract, according to the Ravens website.
Additionally, the team has re-signed exclusive rights free agent running back Damien Berry and restricted free agent guard Ramon Harewood to one-year contracts.
But it was a tough day for the Super Bowl champions, who lost free agent linebackers Paul Kruger and Dannell Ellerbe.
Kruger signed with the AFC North-rival Cleveland Browns and Ellerbe agreed to a five-year deal with Miami.
Canty, 30, was released in February by the Giants. The 6-foot-7, 317-pounder was a starter the last four years in New York, but he missed seven games in 2012 with a knee injury. He finished with 26 tackles and three sacks.
Berry, who originally signed with the Ravens as a rookie free agent in 2011, spent his first NFL season on Baltimore's practice squad. He missed the entire 2012 campaign after being placed on Injured Reserve (neck/shoulder) during training camp.
Harewood, who was selected by Baltimore in the sixth round of the 2010 NFL Draft, has played in six career games, making five starts at left guard. The 2012 campaign marked his first NFL action, having spent his first two seasons with the Ravens on Injured Reserve (knees and ankle).
