Ravens Player Meets With Baltimore Teens

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A superstar football player made a special appearance at a Baltimore high school Monday.

Jessica Kartalija reports wide receiver Anquan Boldin had a strong message for some Charm City teens.

It was anything but a regular school day at Excel Academy High School.  Ravens wide receiver Anquan Boldin made a special appearance at the West Baltimore high school.

"I encourage everyone to get out and at least move around for an hour a day," Boldin said.

Encouraging students to stay fit and active, Boldin says he does an intense workout every day.

"My workouts usually consist of at least two or three hours a day---running, lifting weights, different cardio exercises," Boldin said.

"He told us to make sure we eat right, stay healthy," said junior Tynesha Smith.

Anita Heath, a teacher at the school, entered a contest sponsored by CBS Radio, Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital and MECU.  Two thousand dollars will go toward the physical education department at Excel Academy.

"To motivate our children to let them know that they can be excellent, that excellence is very important," Heath said.

The three-time Pro-Bowler joined the Ravens in 2010.

"In order to be successful in life, set a goal and don't let anything deter you from achieving that goal," Boldin said.

"Pretty much, I think he's a really cool dude.  I like him as a football player and I like to see him play," said senior Tajay Stephens.

The students also had an opportunity to ask Boldin questions about his football career and personal life.

Boldin was the 2003 NFL Rookie of the Year.
