Ravens Player Anquan Boldin Takes Underprivileged Kids On Holiday Shopping Spree
BALTIMORE (WJZ)—Giving back! That's what one Ravens player is all about! Dozens of kids are going home a little happier Tuesday after being taken on a holiday shopping spree with Anquan Boldin.
Rochelle Ritchie was there for all the fun and has more on how some kids say this is not only a shopping spree but a life lesson.
The kids say it teaches them to always make sure to take care of their communities and to spend their money wisely.
It's a round of applause for Ravens wide receiver Anquan Boldin.
Thanks to Boldin and his foundation, Q81, dozens of students from Seed School of Maryland are one step closer to completing their Christmas shopping list.
"I think it's great and kind," one little boy said.
Boldin's foundation made the Christmas season more affordable for these kids by handing out $100 gift cards to use in the aisles of Wal-Mart on Washington Boulevard.
"A lot of times people aren't able to afford at Christmas time and we try to extend our hand as much as possible," Boldin said.
Boldin started the Q81 Foundation during his sophomore season with the Ravens with the entire idea behind the foundation being to give back to underprivileged kids.
A total of 75 of Seed's best and brightest students were chosen to shop.
"What you've done is give a lot in class everyday and you should be rewarded for that," said Khalek Kirkland, Seed School of Maryland principal.
While video games and beauty products may be on the minds of many, some say it's a lesson in budgeting.
"I look at the prices now because normally I don't because I'm a teenager, but now that it's his money and my money, I am going to look at prices and make it all fit and work," said Theresa Peroy.
Boldin's foundation does this every year, and much of it is made possible through donations.
He also holds a shopping spree in his home state of Florida.
