Rash Of Robberies Has Students Concerned
A string of college campus robberies have some students on edge. Some students say they never received word about the potential crimes. Gigi Barnett has more.
It happened Thursday evening on the community college of Baltimore County, Essex campus. Sky Eye Chopper 13 was over the scene as police say a man walked up to a female student and robbed her at gunpoint. It's a cause of concern for students, who say they were never told.
"If they tell teachers but not students, I don't think that's fair. If one should know, they should all know," said one student.
But that student wasn't alone. Monday morning, another armed robbery happened at Towson University. A student at a bank ATM lost his cash. Towson security sent campus-wide text messages to students and teachers.
Thursday night, robbers hit Loyola University and mugged two students at knifepoint and beat up another student who tried to help.
"I don't feel safe. It's kind of awful. And we do that walk all the time," said Loyola student Marisa Massaro.
Security at Loyola is now high.
"This is their home and they need to feel safe here," said Terrence Sawyer, Loyola. "It's our responsibility to make sure that that's the way they feel."
While Loyola has beefed up security and placed students on alert, it's also working with the other universities to make sure the robberies are not related.
Police are still searching for suspects in all of the robberies.
