Rash Of Home Invasions Strikes Gated North Baltimore Community
BALTIMORE (WJZ)—Violence strikes in a quiet North Baltimore neighborhood. Police are looking for a man they believe is behind several home invasions and armed robberies.
Christie Ileto has more on the string of crimes that has residents on edge.
At first glance, the gated community of the Villages of Homeland in North Baltimore seems quiet, but Downing Road -- mixed with condos and homes -- is buzzing with news of the latest home invasion.
"I've heard about the break-ins, armed robberies. It's terrible," said Shae Lunga-Williams.
Police say just days ago, a woman was robbed at knifepoint in her home.
This latest incident is part of a longer string of violence.
It's frightening for Williams, who walks her dogs every day.
"I'm a single woman and it's scary, really scary," Williams said.
"We have three home invasions and one robbery," said Vernon Davis, Baltimore City police detective.
Police say the suspect is a black male about 5'7"-5'8", who wears a ski mask and strikes at random hours of the day and night.
"He's approaching the homes, checking for unlocked doors and forcing his way and taking U.S currency, and then running away," Davis said.
Downing Road seems to be a pretty quiet street, which is why residents say it's pretty unusual to have these types of violent crimes just steps from their front doors.
"We installed a camera on the back of a resident's house. I guess that the residents are hearing it and taking steps to protect themselves," said James Wills.
Though security comes on at night, residents are taking extra precautions.
"It's just a matter of being aware," Williams said.
Because some say they're afraid they could be next.
