Rally Held In Baltimore To De-Fund Planned Parenthood
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- More public protests against Planned Parenthood. This comes as pro-lifers around the country and here in Baltimore want millions of federal dollars stripped from the organization.
Gigi Barnett has more on one of these protests this weekend.
The outcry against Planned Parenthood is a silent one for some pro-life supporters. This weekend, they joined in on a national protest, standing in front of the health organization's office in the 300 block of N. Howard Street. Their signs sent the message.
"Every child is precious, even those children who might have deformities, who might be mentally and physically incapacitated," said Defend Life founder Jack Ames. "The American people are fed up."
Protests against Planned Parenthood ramped up after secretly-recorded videos surfaced this summer. In them, some of the health agency's officers were allegedly negotiating to provide aborted fetal organs for research.
Pro-life groups were behind the videos and a recent government probe found no wrongdoing on Planned Parenthood's part---but the call to withdraw taxpayer dollars from the agency continues to echo around the country.
"The videos that got out there stirred up a lot of people," said Zsolt Bicskey. "It's very upsetting that all of us have to fund it."
Back in August, more than 78,000 people protested at abortion centers across the nation.
"I think that there are a lot of women out there that have had abortions and we don't want to be out here condemning them," said Brenda Bicskey.
This group says it will continue to picket Planned Parenthood until its voice is heard.
Planned Parenthood receives about one-third of its $1 billion budget from federal dollars.
