Raise A Glass For The 9th Annual Highlandtown Wine Festival
BALTIMORE (WJZ) — It's become one of Baltimore's most popular springtime events, and it happens on Sunday.
Ron Matz says pass the chardonnay because more than a thousand people are expected for the ninth annual Highlandtown Wine Festival.
Domenic Petrucci is getting ready for Sunday. There are homemade wines, delicious food and much more. It's time for the Highlandtown Wine Festival.
"We got a lot of wine lovers and a lot of good people who want to have a good time and enjoy good Italian food from Di Pasquale's," said Petrucci, festival co-founder.
Highlandtown is famous for its white marble steps. The festival benefits the community association and Our Lady of Pompei Church.
"The most important thing is it brings a lot of people together," Petrucci said. "We started nine years ago in the small church courtyard. We keep growing. This year we'll be blocking off streets. We're expecting over a thousand people."
The festival isn't just about wine. There's great food from Di Pasquale's Market.
The market is a Highlandtown landmark, and owner Joe Di Pasquale helped start the festival.
"The festival brings the old timers and the new people. Folks from out of the area come. It gives us a chance to show off what we do here in Highlandtown," Di Pasquale said.
"I love the festival. I see all the people I grew up with. The food is delicious and it all goes for a good cause. I love Highlandtown," said Sandy Giro, who grew up in Highlandtown.
So raise a glass. You'll love what happens in Highlandtown this weekend.
"We have wine and good food," Di Pasquale said. "Play some bocce and share some memories and hopefully creating a few more."
"We'll have bocce demonstrations and a bocce tournament. Kids are welcome, too. It's going to be a beautiful day," Petrucci said.
The festival was re-scheduled because of heavy rain on its original date back in April. Festival hours are from 1 to 6 p.m.
