Radee Prince, Accused In 2017 Maryland Workplace Shooting, Plans Insanity Defense
EDGEWOOD, Md. (WJZ) — Radee Prince, the man accused of murdering three of his co-workers in Harford County last year, plans an insanity defense.
Prince appeared before a judge under heavy security Wednesday morning.
The judge ordered two mental health evaluations. One will be done in response to Prince's motion that he intends to plead not criminally responsible for the killings by reason of insanity
Another will determine whether he is competent to stand trial.
According to police and witness accounts, Prince gathered his co-workers at an Edgewood granite business on the morning of October 18, 2017. He then opened fire—killing Enis Mrvoljak, Bayarsaikhan Tudev, and Jose Hidalgo Romero.
He wounded two others.
Prince had no competency issues during a trial earlier this year in Delaware for a shooting that happened the same day as the Maryland rampage.
He argued "imperfect self defense"—that he feared for his life. But surveillance video shows him opening fire and telling his victim to "bleed out b****."
A jury convicted Prince of attempted manslaughter, rejecting the more serious attempted murder charge. Prince was sentenced to 40 years in that case.
He had a history of angry outbursts at co-workers. His sister told WJZ he was a "ticking time bomb."
Prince's lawyer said he suffers from PTSD.
His trial for the Edgewood murders is scheduled to start in March.
