Pursuit of N.J. Carjacking Suspect Ends In Md.
BALTIMORE (WJZ) --- Maryland State police troopers and Maryland Transportation Authority police officers ended the pursuit of a New Jersey carjacking suspect right before he entered the Ft. McHenry Tunnel Thursday afternoon.
Trent S. Talley, 29, of Cinnaminson, NJ is suspected of carjacking a 2013 Kia Sol.
Around 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, Maryland State police received a call from the owner of the Kia Sol, who said his vehicle had been stolen earlier in the afternoon at a mental health facility in New Jersey. The owner told police his vehicle was being tracked by GPS and it was currently in the area of the Maryland House rest stop on I-95.
Troopers caught up to the vehicle on I-95 near New Forge Road. They turned on their emergency lights and sirens, but Talley refused to stop. Instead, he sped up in an attempt to flee from the troopers.
Officers deployed stop sticks near O'Donnell Street, deflating two of the vehicle's tires and causing the driver to slow down.
Three police officers used their vehicles to box Talley in which forced him to stop. All three police vehicles and the stolen Kia were damaged. No other vehicles in the area were struck or damaged and no one was injured.
Troopers and officers took Talley into custody where they saw that he was bleeding from cuts on his hands. Talley was treated at the scene and released to state troopers.
Police believe his hands were cut during the initial incident in New Jersey, when he may have broken a window.
Maryland police told New Jersey authorities that Talley was in custody. Talley is expected to be charged in Maryland and New Jersey.
