Purple Pride Swells After Ravens' Win Over The Texans
BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- The Baltimore Ravens are on their way to the AFC championship. The entire region is glowing with purple pride after their win against the Houston Texans Sunday.
Derek Valcourt has more on the fans who are still celebrating.
This was the outcome that all of Maryland was hoping for. It was just about 4 p.m. Sunday, when every bar in Baltimore erupted in cheers for the Ravens.
Tailgating started right at the crack of dawn.
"We're going to win the game, baby!" said one fan.
"I was up at 5 o'clock this morning. I was so excited!" said another.
Also excited was actor Josh Charles of the CBS hit series, "The Good Wife." He came back to his hometown to catch the playoff action in person.
"I'm really happy to be here today because we haven't experienced this in a while here in Baltimore," Charles said.
As game time approached, bars around Baltimore filled up with a sea of purple-- all those customers good for a bar owners business.
"Little money? Look at these guys, they're drinking like fish. It's fantastic!" a bar owner said.
And fantastic is how many fans felt about the game. As the points added up, so did accolades for the players.
"Joe Flacco is fantastic! I'm wacko for Flacco!" said a fan.
"Ed Reed! When in doubt, our defense always got us through it," said another fan.
And when the final score was tallied, fans immediately set their sights on New England.
"Flacco is going to walk into New England and own that town!" a Ravens fan shouted.
"The Patriots only have a passing game. They don't have a running game. They don't have a defense. So Tom Brady, we're coming for you!" a Ravens fan said.
Not only are the fans excited for the game but a lot of the businesses in town are excited as well. Since the team will be playing away in New England, a lot of business owners know they're going to be raking in the big bucks next week with everyone filling up the bars to watch the Ravens take on the Patriots.
The winner of next week's game advances to the Super Bowl. You can watch the game live on WJZ at 3 p.m.
