Purple In Unlikely Places: Flacco & Rice Families Celebrate Hometown Heroes
BALTIMORE (WJZ)—We know Baltimore erupted after the Super Bowl win. But cities and towns across the nation were cheering along their hometown heroes.
Mary Bubala takes a look.
It looked like Ravens nation, but it's South Jersey. Normally Eagles Country, fans traded their green for purple, cheering on hometown hero Joe Flacco.
"We are so proud of Joe Flacco. Way to go, Joe," one fan said.
With the football finally out of his hands, Flacco happily held onto his son Stephen before heading to Disneyworld-- the ceremonial trip for the Super Bowl MVP.
And Joe, Stephen and his wife rode in style: a police escort and a limo ride to the airport-- a trip of a lifetime after becoming a world champion.
And Flacco will continue to ride in style after receiving the keys to his new car, a red 2014 Corvette, which we learned will need two child car seats!
Just like after the Ravens played the 49ers last season, the Flaccos announced they're expecting another child.
"My wife found out a couple of weeks ago," Flacco said. "It's one of those things that she's not that far along, but last year when we played the 49ers we told my whole family right after the game on Thanksgiving, and it just happened to work out this way again, so it's kind of a good luck thing I think."
Ray Rice says his daughter, little Raven, was definitely good luck as he held her in his arms after winning the Super Bowl.
This as his relatives in his hometown of New Rochelle, N.Y. turned their town into Ravens Nation for the night.
They were so proud of their hometown hero.
"People dream of this," said Khalisha Rice, Ray Rice's cousin. "You never think someone in the family will make it, but he's here, and we're proud."
Rice will head to his hometown later this week to see relatives.
