Protests Over Ferguson Decision Continue Across Baltimore
BALTIMORE (WJZ)— Protests resume in Baltimore against last week's grand jury decision not to indict a white police officer for the shooting death of an unarmed black teenager in Ferguson, Mo.
Demonstrations are slated to take place in various locations throughout the city, Baltimore police Tweeted on Monday afternoon. Police say they will keep the public informed about traffic impacts.
Thus far, a small group of demonstrators remain on the sidewalk around Morgan State University in the area of Coldspring Lane and Hillen Road and in the 2900-block of Liberty Heights. No traffic is being impacted.
Officer Darren Wilson shot and killed 18-year-old Michael Brown on Aug. 9. Last Monday, a grand jury decided not to indict Wilson, sparking protests across the nation.
As anger over the Ferguson decision spread to Baltimore, protestors shut down I-83 several times last Tuesday—some sitting in the street—creating gridlock downtown for hours.
Students at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and Western High School--inspired by the peaceful demonstrations in which students from Morgan State University marched all the way from their campus to the Inner Harbor, joining a number of other protests from City Hall—staged in-school sit-ins last Wednesday.
