Prosecutors Won't Take Stand In Freddie Gray Hearing
BALTIMORE (AP) -- A Baltimore judge ruled that prosecutors in the Freddie Gray case won't be required to take the stand at an upcoming hearing in the case.
A defense attorney for one of the six officers charged in Gray's death subpoenaed State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby, two investigators, five prosecutors and an assistant medical examiner. Judge Barry Williams quashed those subpoenas on Aug. 17.
Defense attorneys had argued that prosecutors should be called as witnesses because they met with an assistant medical examiner before the autopsy was complete and conducted an independent investigation into the case. Attorneys also argued that Mosby should recuse herself.
A motions hearing is scheduled for Sept. 2.
Gray died April 19, a week after suffering a critical spinal injury in police custody.
