Program Offers Free Cab Rides Through New Year's
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A local nonprofit group is offering people in the D.C. area who have had too much to drink a free ride home through the end of the year.
The Washington Regional Alcohol Program says its annual SoberRide program is running each night from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. until New Year's Eve.
Residents of the District, Maryland's Montgomery and Prince George's counties and Arlington, Fairfax, Prince William and eastern Loudoun counties in Virginia can call 1-800-200-TAXI for a free ride up to a $30 fare. The service is available to people 21 and older who are at risk of driving while impaired.
Since 1993, the program says has provided more than 52,840 safe rides home.
