Prince George's Police ID Man Shot By Officer
LANDOVER, Md. (AP) -- Police in Prince George's County have identified a man who was fatally shot by a police officer, and say a gun, vial of suspected PCP and a ski mask were found in his possession.
Authorities say Michael Anthony Bailey, of District Heights, was killed during a Monday night scuffle with a police officer.
The officer encountered Bailey, 26, and two other men hanging out in a high-crime area in Landover, but the group fled. A police department spokeswoman says the officer tried to use a stun gun to subdue Bailey, but that Bailey managed to pull the prongs from the device from his body and continued running.
Authorities say the officer, who is on administrative leave, fired shots after Bailey reached for a gun in the waistband of his pants.
