Prince George's Officer Suspended After DUI Charge
PALMER PARK, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County Police say an officer has been suspended from duty after he crashed his cruiser while under the influence of alcohol.
Police say Cpl. Rodney Lewis was off-duty and wasn't acting in a law enforcement capacity at the time of the crash, which occurred early Friday morning on the Capital Beltway in northern Virginia.
Police say Lewis was driving on Interstate 495 near the American Legion Memorial Bridge when he lost control and struck a jersey wall. He was hospitalized with serious but not life threatening injuries.
Police say he's been charged with driving under the influence by police in connection with the crash.
Lewis is a 12-year veteran of the department and has been suspended with pay.
