Prince George's Democrats Move To Replace Alston
UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County Democrats have chosen businessman Greg Hall to replace Delegate Tiffany Alston in the Maryland General Assembly after she was convicted of paying a law firm employee with state money.
The county's Democratic Central Committee voted Friday night to nominate Hall for the post. The selection requires the approval of Gov. Martin O'Malley.
If approved, Hall would serve the remainder of Alston's four-year term through 2014. Hall ran for the seat unsuccessfully in 2010.
On Thursday, the General Assembly's legal counsel ruled that Alston's conviction mandated her removal from the House of Delegates.
In June, a jury found Alston guilty of misdemeanor theft for paying a law firm employee $800 in state money. She received a suspended sentence last month.
