Prince George's Co. Marks 11th Homicide In 11 Days

ADELPHI, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County Police say a University of Maryland student was shot to death at a home just off campus, bringing the county's homicide total to 11 in as many days.

County police say a man who was a full-time student at the university was fatally shot in the 8800-block of 38th Avenue in Adelphi around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. Police say a man in a black ski mask was seen fleeing the scene on foot. Police believe the incident may be drug related.

Police say the student was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Executive Rushern Baker said on WTOP-FM's "Ask the Executive" program on Tuesday that he's concerned about a spike in homicides in the county in the new year, but that the acting police chief is "on top of it."
