Powerball Jackpot Up To $425 Million
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- How's this for a stocking stuffer: a lottery worth a fortune. The nation's Powerball jackpot was $325 million for Saturday night's drawing.
Tim Williams has more.
For Milford Mill resident Troy Roberts, Saturday's $325 million Powerball drawing gives him a chance to think big and imagine.
"If I win, I'm going to spread it out among my family--keep everybody happy and keep everybody comfortable," Roberts said. "Set something up for future generations."
A Milford Mill liquor store had a steady line for lottery ticket sales with Powerball leading the way.
"I bought 10 Powerball tickets for tonight. Hopefully I'll win the jackpot. If I do, I can retire early and spread the wealth," said Terrell Lamont Blackwell.
This jackpot is the fourth-largest in the game's history. A single winner's cash payout would be nearly $214 million, before taxes.
"I would like to have some to help out the children, the poor, my church and things of that nature. I don't need a lot," said one player.
Powerball jackpots have increased more rapidly since the ticket price doubled to $2 in January, prompting some to take a first-time chance.
"I don't usually buy one. I've never had any luck with one but I thought I'd try one," said Linsay Hamilton. "If I hit, my son's a CPA and he can help me, tell me how to manage the money."
Powerball organizers say this is the first run-up to a large jackpot that's fallen over a major holiday. They're unsure whether it will help or hinder sales, but so far, sales are soaring.
Saturday night's winning numbers were 22, 32, 37, 44, 50 and 34. There were no winners, so Wednesday's jackpot is now a record $425 million. Good luck!
