Power Line Undergrounding Task Force Announced
WASHINGTON (AP) -- District of Columbia Mayor Vincent Gray says he has appointed members of a task force that will investigate solutions to power outages caused by severe storms.
Gray also announced the first meeting of the Mayor's Task Force on Power Line Undergrounding will be held Aug. 23.
The mayor says the task force will be co-chaired by City Administrator Allen Y. Lew and PEPCO Holdings Chairman Joseph Rigby.
Pepco, which serves Washington and suburban Maryland, has come under heavy criticism for prolonged delays in restoring power after severe storms. Gray says the task force will gather information to develop plans to reduce the impact of severe weather on the power grid. Among the solutions that will be investigated is the feasibility of burying overhead power lines.
