Potomac Edison: October Snow Cut Power To 34K At Peak
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Potomac Edison says more than 34,000 customers in western Maryland were without power at one point during October's snowstorm.
That's according to a report filed Monday with the Maryland Public Service Commission. Potomac Edison said 34,520 were without power just after 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29. Potomac Edison says service was restored to the last customer around 8:20 p.m. on Nov. 2.
The company says the storm brought six to 10 inches of snow to the region, with higher amounts in some areas. Potomac Edison says the weight of the snow and the fact that trees had not yet lost their leaves caused extensive tree damage to its distribution system. Potomac Edison is western Maryland's largest electric utility.
