Police: Victims In Dundalk Double Shooting Not Intended Targets
DUNDALK, Md. (WJZ) -- A couple visiting friends in a Dundalk neighborhood were shot while sitting in their car. Baltimore County Police say it's a case of mistaken identity.
Rochelle Ritchie has more on the shooting and the suspect.
Right now, there is not a description of the suspect. The couple was sitting in the car, set to go home after visiting friends, when they were shot.
It's a frightening case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time as an armed person with a gun was looking to kill.
"A 65-year-old male and a 65-year-old female were in their car on the 100-block of Chestnut Street where they were shot at least once," said Cpl. John Wachter, Baltimore County Police.
Baltimore County Police say the couple had just left a friend's home when someone walking by started shooting at them for no reason.
"A motive for this crime? Absolutely none. They don't appear to be the intended victims," he said.
"It's rough out here," said Sterling Randolph.
Randolph lives a few feet from where the shooting happened and thought the gunshots were something else.
"I was looking at a western on TV. I thought it was the TV but I said, `No, that sounds like it's outside' and it was outside," he said.
People who live on Chestnut Street say the neighborhood has changed over the years and they are not happy about it.
"It makes your heart a little heavy," said one man.
Police say the couple sped away from the scene, stopping at the corner of Dundalk and Broening, where they called police.
Residents say while they've never been nervous about walking around their neighborhood or to their vehicles before, this incident will make them more vigilant.
"It was so close. That could have been me walking to my car [or] a child out here," said Melody Smith.
The couple's injuries were non-life threatening. Metro Crime Stoppers are offering a $2,000 reward for tips leading to an arrest.
The name of the victims have not been released. Police say they are not from the Dundalk area.
