Police To Hold Blood Drive In Honor Of Officer Shot
BALTIMORE (WJZ)--The Baltimore Police Department and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 3 will hold a blood drive in honor of Sgt. Keith Mcneill, who is recovering after being shot off duty earlier this month.
Police believe Mcneill was shot in a brutal attack on March 14 by 34-year-old Gregg Thomas, who turned himself into police just days after Baltimore City Police Commissioner Anthony Batts declared him"Public Enemy No. 1."
Thomas remains behind bars after his bail was denied. He is charged with first- and second-degree attempted murder of Sgt. Mcneill after police say he shot him several times. Thomas denies he was the gunman.
Mcneill was shot several times in the torso and rushed to Shock Trauma.
Police say Mcneill has a long road to recovery.
"As we all continue to pray for Sgt. Mcneill's speedy recovery, take this opportunity to show your support for him by giving in his name. I hope everyone takes a moment to participate in this opportunity to save a life in a different way," Batts said.
The Fraternal Order of Police has joined with the two Fire Department Unions, IAFF Local 734 and IAFF Local 964, to facilitate the blood drive and will be fully supported by the Baltimore Police Department.
The blood drive will take place next Wednesday, April 2, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the FOP Lodge, 3920 Buena Vista Avenue in Baltimore.
