Ellicott City Man Charged With Attempted Murder For Allegedly Trying To Hit Officers With His Car
ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (WJZ) -- An Ellicott City man has been charged with attempted murder after officers say he attempted to hit them with his car following a police pursuit.
On Tuesday, 911 callers reported Sean Brian Witt had stopped his car on Normandy Drive at Mt. Etna Circle and was blocking traffic.
The drivers said they approached Witt's car and saw him inhaling from a can. They said he refused to move his car or open his door.
When officers arrived at the scene, they also saw Witt huffing inside his vehicle. When they walked toward his car, he drove through traffic erratically. Police said Witt was endangering other drivers on the road.
Three police vehicles started pursuing his vehicle. According to officers, the chase ended at a dead-end on Furrow Avenue and Witt rear-ended a police car, causing minor damage, in an effort to escape.
Police said Witt then drove at a high rate of speed directly toward officers. One police officer fired a gunshot, but it did not strike him. Witt was stopped and taken into custody.
No one was injured.
Officers found illegal drugs in Witt's car and are in the process of booking him.
In addition to attempted murder, Witt is also charged with first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, DUI, drug charges and numerous traffic violations.
