Police Search For Suspects After World War II Veteran Attacked And Robbed
MILLERSVILLE, Md. (WJZ) -- An 89-year-old World War II veteran is recovering after being attacked by a group of teens near his home. It happened in Millersville as the victim walked to get his morning breakfast.
Rochelle Ritchie explains police are looking for the suspects.
Anne Arundel County Police are trying to figure out who attacked an 89-year-old man as he was walking to a McDonald's along Old Mill Road.
"These cowards got away. And right now, we're trying to find out who these cowards are--to hit an 89-year-old man over the head,"said Lt. T.J. Smith, Anne Arundel County Police.
The attack happened around 6 a.m. Tuesday. They took his wallet and some cash.
The victim is no stranger to the McDonald's on Old Mill Road. WJZ was told that he walks there almost every day. So to have this happen, is quite a surprise.
"It shows the character of these punks that think it's OK to hit an 89-year-old man over the head with something, to take his money that he's worked his life to earn. So, it's very disturbing. We've increased our presence in that community," said Smith.
WJZ tried to speak with the family, but no one was home.
Neighbors, however, were more than willing to express their disgust in the assault.
"I don't care if you don't have a dime to your name, you still don't hit and go and beat somebody and take their money," a woman said.
The description of the suspects is vague. They are described as three male teenagers wearing dark clothing.
People in the tight-knit community say the man is seen walking all the time and say anyone who could hurt an elderly man like him should be locked up.
"What happened to that old man was wrong. That's not right," one man said.
