Police Search For Suspected Carjacker Dubbed 'The Blonde Bandit'
CATONSVILLE, Md. (WJZ) -- She's known as the "blonde bandit." A dangerous fugitive wanted in the Washington, D.C. area is on the move.
Adam May reports police say she targeted people in Baltimore County.
It all started when the suspect asked a shopper at the Safeway for a ride down the street, but that shopper had no idea she was talking to a wanted criminal. Stephanie Schwab, 26, used her long blonde hair and green eyes to charm a woman in the parking lot of a Safeway on Baltimore National Pike on Thanksgiving. Schwab asked for a ride to the Shoppers Warehouse down the street. That's when police say she pulled a weapon and tried stealing the car.
"The victim grabbed the knife, there was a struggle for the knife and she was cut on her hand," said Baltimore County Police Detective Cathy Batton.
Schwab ran off, leaving other shoppers leery.
"It's sad and I hope they catch her," said a shopper.
Schwab has become known as the "blonde bandit." She's also wanted for two bank robberies in the D.C. area and a carjacking in the parking lot of the Neiman Marcus at Tyson's Corner. That vehicle was recovered at the Baltimore County Safeway.
"We're asking motorists---and while this situation is going on and Ms. Schwab has not been apprehended -- to please be cautious, not give rides to people you don't know," said Batton.
There is a warrant for Schwab's arrest in connection with the carjacking. The charges are attempted kidnapping and assault. If you see her, you're urged to call police.
Schwab is also a former member of the gang MS-13.
