Police Search For Suspect Who Beat & Robbed Elderly Woman
HANOVER, Md. (WJZ) -- An elderly woman was beaten and robbed during a home invasion in Anne Arundel County. Now police are hoping the public can track down the dangerous suspect.
Monique Griego spoke with the victim about the attack.
Before stealing the woman's car, the suspect tied her up, hit her on the head and even tried to strangle her. He is still on the loose.
The bruises from Gail Jones' terrifying ordeal are still visible.
"These are from myself ripping myself to shreds to get out of the binds," she said.
Tuesday morning, the 63-year-old was sleeping on her couch at her home in the Chesapeake Mobile Court when she heard a noise.
"A dude burst through my front door, a big dude," she said. "He had taken a white handkerchief and tied it around his face."
Jones says the man demanded her pills, money and jewelry. She didn't have any so he tied her up by her hands and feet and even tried to strangle her with her oxygen cord.
"Initially he took the cord and wrapped it around my neck but it wasn't long enough," Jones said.
She says the man finally found her keys and took off in her car but not before he struck her in the head and threatened to kill her.
"Whether he had a weapon, I do not know but did it scare the living [expletive] out of me," she said.
Police don't know if this was a targeted attack but neighbors believe the suspect may have been watching the area, looking for a vulnerable victim.
"There's some senseless punk running the streets of Anne Arundel County right now that we need the public's help in identifying," said Anne Arundel County Police Lt. T.J. Smith.
The suspect is described as a white male in his 30s, between 5'8" and 5'10" and between 220 and 250 pounds. Jones' stolen car is a blue 2002 Hyundai Accent with the Maryland tag DPB-946.
Jones is hoping he's caught before he can hurt anyone else.
"I'm sorry what whatever he's going through in his life has brought him to this but he doesn't have the right to inflict this kind of evil on innocent elderly people," she said.
Anyone with information on the attack or suspect is asked to call police.
The suspect also made off with an undisclosed amount of cash from Jones' house.
