Police Search For Killer After Deadly Shooting In Fells Point
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Searching for a killer. Baltimore City police are urging anyone who caught a glimpse of a suspect they say shot and killed a man in Fells Point over the weekend to come forward.
George Solis updates the investigation.
It was Memorial Day weekend when an emergency call would forever change lives. First responders arrived to Fells Point before midnight Saturday to find 26-year-old Dominique Dungee suffering from a gunshot wound to the body. Despite being rushed to Johns Hopkins, the former city lifeguard and father of one died.
Family and friends are now desperate for answers.
"How could someone take such a nice person? He was one of the nicest guys I knew," said Nikki Cobbs, co-worker.
Police tell WJZ Dungee was seen on video caught in the middle of an unmistakable argument with the gunman during a very busy Saturday night in Fells Point.
"Whoever was arguing with Mr. Dungee meant to shoot Mr. Dungee," said Donny Moses, Baltimore City Police Department.
Where the video is coming from -- police are not saying.
"Actually, just to allow people to keep faith in us, I'm not even going to give you the source of what we saw," said Moses.
Police tell WJZ it's a testament to how serious they are about protecting anyone else who comes forward with footage.
Police are hopeful either businesses with security cameras or someone recording the shooting on their cell phones help bring the killer to justice.
The victim's brother, Darryl Dungee, opened up to WJZ at a vigil Wednesday.
"The question is are we going to get any answers? That's the thing. They weren't standing down here alone. There were hundreds of people down here at the time," he said. " So someone saw something, it's just a matter of who is going to have the heart and dignity to come forward and say, 'Hey, this is what I saw.'"
Police are also encouraging businesses in Fells Point to install their own security cameras if they haven't already to offer another set of eyes should the unthinkable occur.
