Police Search For Suspect In Barbershop Shooting In Northeast Baltimore
BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- The search is on for an armed suspect in a shooting in Northeast Baltimore.
Jessica Kartalija has the latest on the investigation.
A brazen robbery attempt during business hours has the shop's owner fighting for his life.
"It was a robbery, attempted robbery. The owner was shot as a result of the robbery," said Anthony Guglielmi, spokesman for the Baltimore City Police Department.
City police were called to the Up Close Barbershop on Harford Road just before 7 p.m. Wednesday. Police say a man walked into the shop, attempting to rob the 32-year-old shop owner before shooting him in the head.
"We are looking at the individuals in the store and their criminal histories, trying to determine if there's something more serious than a random robbery attempt," Guglielmi explained.
Baltimore City Police are also urging anyone with information to come forward. They tell WJZ they are interviewing witnesses who are cooperating, but they still need additional help.
"We need individuals that may have been driving home, it's around the rush hour time, or may have been walking in the area that saw a vehicle, perhaps even on foot that may have ran," Guglielmi said.
Police say it's unclear whether the suspect got away with any cash.
The shop is closed as the owner remains in critical condition at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
