Police Say N.Y. Politician Bilked In Md. Man's Phone Scam
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Frederick city police say a New York state senator was among the victims of a telephone scam that purported to send emergency aid to the Dominican Republic.
The Manhattan District Attorney's Office declined on Friday to identify the politician who was allegedly victimized.
New York and Frederick authorities worked together to serve search-and-seizure and arrest warrants Thursday on Francisco Alberto Calcano, 42, at his apartment on Willowdale Drive.
Calcano is being held without bail while awaiting extradition to Manhattan, where prosecutors will seek a grand-jury indictment.
Police say the senator and his constituents were defrauded of $11,500.
