911 Call Released After Police Say Driver On I-95N Shot At Another Car
BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- It was a terrifying case of road rage along I-95 in Harford County. A man pulls a gun on another driver and now we're hearing his shaken call for help.
Meghan McCorkell explains how things escalated.
That victim called 911 after he claimed another driver pulled out a semi-automatic handgun and started shooting right at his car.
A dispute between drivers nearly turns deadly.
"I was in the second to fast lane. I got over in the fast lane. The guy behind me got pissed. I guess he thought I cut him off," the victim told 911.
It was just before 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Two SUVs were spotted cutting each other off along northbound I-95 near Route 152 in Harford County.
Police say the two drivers were gesturing at one another for miles. Then, they crashed.
"He slammed on his brakes, hits my car trying to get back over," the victim said.
The victim pulled over at a Wawa store to call 911. He says the other driver never stopped. When he tried to chase the car down-- that's when he says things got scary.
"As I rolled the window down and I'm telling him to pull over, he pulls out a gun -- I don't know if it was blanks -- and starts shooting the gun at my front tire," the 911 caller said.
The victim managed to jot down the plate number of that car. State police tracked it to Nicholas Heider.
According to charging documents, Heider, 34, now faces a laundry list of charges including reckless endangerment, first- and second-degree assault and handgun violations.
While serving a warrant at Heider's home, police recovered what they believe was the handgun used in the attack, as well as more than three dozen other weapons.
Heider posted bond and has been released from jail pending a trial.
